Job Description
Historic Hudson Valley (HHV) is a Westchester-based cultural non-profit that welcomes visitors to five National Historic Landmarks and presents public tours, school programs, and seasonal festivals for audiences that include suburban families seeking weekend leisure activities; K-12 teachers meeting curricular objectives and their students; and a diverse array of heritage tourists. HHV has a national reputation for groundbreaking on-site interpretation and award-winning digital content, particularly in the content areas of Northern slavery, regional women’s history, and storytelling.
Reporting to the Snr. Associate Director, Event Production, the Stage Manager contributes to the success of Historic Hudson Valley’s event operations by keeping multiple staggered performance areas running precisely on schedule, calling show cues, and coordinating contingency plans. As the primary point of contact between artists, technical crews, and event production, the stage manager ensures seamless communication and set-ready performances.
Primary Responsibility:
Serve as the central point of communication and coordination between production departments, performers and actors ensuring the safe and timely execution of the daily or nightly runs of a new outdoor, immersive experience.
Principal Duties:
Ensure that stage activities and show timing adhere to prescribed schedule during the course of the event, which will include time staggered performances on different stages/areas and roving performer activations.
Coordinate and communicate a response plan in the event of a necessary change or adjustment in performance schedule, due to performer absence, technical issue or other, work with all stakeholders to seek resolution and ensure that production can continue safely.
Call show cues verbally to execute the physical production.
Serve as liaison between performers and technical departments while in performance to ensure smooth and consistent production and presentation
Perform safety checks on and around the site and stage area, which may include setting physical barriers and making verbal announcements.
Understand and be able to implement emergency plans at the initiation of the Manager on Duty
Assist Creative Director with the timing and running of rehearsals
Communicate regularly and clearly with the Event Production team. Submit nightly reports of show operation flagging any issues with equipment, performers, site or vendors that can be addressed prior to the next performance.
Ensure that cast and performers store HHV provided costumes in an appropriate fashion, flag any issues with clothing (tears, missing fasteners, damp) that need to be addressed prior to the next performance
Assist in maintaining relationships with the vendors, HHV staff and performers necessary to the successful operation of the live event, including, but not limited to retail, parking, security, and custodial.
Must be comfortable working outdoors, rain or shine, at large scale public events
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
Must possess a high degree of diplomacy and the ability to make sound judgements, within the bounds of Historic Hudson Valley’s policies.
Must be familiar with Office 365, including TEAMS and Outlook.
Must be able to stand/walk for approx. 6hrs, on varied terrain, at night, in all weather conditions.
Must be willing to help out and pitch in, as required, and work toward the common goal of a successful event.
Flexibility; ability to handle pressure gracefully
Demonstrated ability to manage personnel, and communicate effectively with all levels of project stakeholders
Three to five years stage management experience
Valid driver’s license/ reliable transportation to other sites
Work Conditions:

Exposure to changing weather conditions
Weekend, evening, and holiday assignments
This is a part-time seasonal position; evening and weekend hours at special events are required.
