Position Summary

The Onsite Transportation Manager works onsite at the distribution center of a key eShipping customer. This individual is responsible for managing the daily activities of the Transportation department to provide exceptional service to customers by ensuring timely delivery of all products. Responsibilities include managing processes and workflow to achieve department productivity and quality goals, proper utilization of space and equipment, manpower planning, ensuring adherence to distribution center standard operating procedures and safety, security, and housekeeping protocols.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

• This individual may direct activity and workflow of the transportation team, as well as provide training, direction, and leadership in partnership with the onsite management team.

• Serve as a liaison between the Transportation team and the eShipping’s customer’s internal functions and external entities.

• Ensure that the distribution center’s transportation-related requirements are met.

• Work with corporate and local partners to establish and maintain carrier agreements.

• Partner with transportation, operations, and carrier partners to ensure trailer pool needs are appropriately forecasted and available.

• Ensure all parties are adhering to agreed upon service level commitments.

• Coordinate and schedule daily pickups, swaps, and drop trailers.

• Coordinate and support the consolidation of orders from LTL to FTL utilizing partial and multi-stop FTL conversion.

• Establish and maintain all necessary report metrics needed to illustrate transportation results and service levels.

• Oversee traffic flow from the distribution center to customers within the service area and designated pool points.

• Improve outbound carrier costs by driving utilization of carrier drivers, increased driver turns, and working with operations to improve trailer cube and reduce overall area miles.

• Drive continuous improvement of service including on-time service, load quality, and store support requirements.

• Manage and ensure adequate equipment levels and ensure equipment is performing to FMCSA and DOT standards.

• Maintain up to date knowledge of transportation and government regulations through industry and DOT publications.

• Maintain and strengthen internal, customer, and supplier relationships. Communicate and work with supply chain partners in transportation, planning and analysis, merchants, operations, and merchandise allocation to flow product through the distribution center in the most cost efficient and productive manner.

Minimum Education and Experience

• Minimum five years of operations supervision experience in logistics, supply chain, or warehousing.

• Broad knowledge of transportation management systems.

• Prior management success in leadership, supervision, motivation, communication, and planning.

• Analytical experience, including problem identification and resolution.

• Forklift experience is helpful, but not required.

The employee is regularly required to operate a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, telephone, copy machine, and printer. Some movements of the hands, arms, and wrists may involve repetitive motions. Specific vision abilities required by this job include the ability to detect, determine, perceive, identify, recognize, judge, observe, inspect, estimate, and assess various activities and surroundings.

• Cognitive/Mental Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to comprehend and use basic language, either written or spoken, to communicate simple and complex information, ideas, and information. The employee is also required to use logic to define problems, collect information, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, interpret information, and deal with abstract variables for unique or unfamiliar situations. The employee must use problem-solving skills to formulate and apply appropriate courses of action for routine or familiar situations. The employee may be required to perform numerical operations including basic counting, adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing or more complex quantitative calculations.
